Membership Vision & Objectives

GiEM envisions a collaborative platform where individuals and organizations unite to advance gender equality in education. Members will work together to design and deploy innovative interventions to address systemic barriers and promote gender equity in education.

Membership Target

Giem aims to grow its membership base strategically, balancing individual
organizations and networked organizations.

Eligibility and Application Process

Membership is open to organizations and individuals committed to addressing barriers to girls’ education and promoting gender equity in education in Kenya. Prospective members may include:

  • NGOs, CBOs, and FBOs
  • Research and academic institutions, think tanks
  • Networks, coalitions, and alliances
  • Individual experts and advocates for gender equity in education

Prospective members must
submit the following with their application form:

  • A 300-word profile outlining focus areas, regions of operation, and
    contributions to gender and education.
  • For organizations: Details of the head and two representatives, registration
    certificate, and proof of physical address (audited financial reports are optional
    for entities under 3 years old).
  • For individuals: CV and a reference letter from a recognized institution/advocate

Applicants may select up to three themes as indicated
below:

  • Gender and education policy
  • Sexual and reproductive health
  • Menstrual hygiene management
  • Climate change and education
  • Girls’ leadership and agency
  • Addressing boys’ education and gender disparities

→  Members will pay an annual membership fee to support movement activities.

→ GiEM is a member-driven movement. Fees sustain collaborative activities while ensuring inclusivity.

Membership Notes

→  Civil Society Organizations (CSOs): International and national non-governmental organizations, including Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs), Foundations, and Trusts, that are actively advancing gender equality and are aligned with GiEM Vision, Mission, Goal, Values and Principles alongside SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality).

→ Community-Based Organizations (CBOs): Grassroots, not-for-profit organizations registered under the Directorate of Social Protection and working at the county level in Kenya to promote gender equity, and are aligned with GiEM Vision, Mission, Goal, Values and Principles alongside SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality).

→ Individuals: Adults (18 years and above) who are gainfully employed or self-employed with a stable source of income. This includes consultants, academics, social media influencers, and media personalities who share and promote GiEM’s vision, mission, goals, principles, and values—particularly advancing gender equity and social justice.

→ Students: Young adults (18–24 years) currently in school or college who, through leadership activities in their communities or learning institutions, are actively advancing gender equity and social justice in alignment with GiEM’s vision, mission, goals, principles, and values.
